iMessage apps are something limited to iPhones and for the people who live in the Apple eco-system. This particular category of apps only works as a feature of Apple iMessage application which comes as the default chat or message application of an iPhone.

Most of the times we find iMessage apps as an application which provides us sticker packs or gif collections. But today I’m going to write about one of the other use cases of iMessage applications.

According to apple here’s what are iMessage apps and it’s capabilities…

Possible faces of an iMessage application

You can make your next sticker pack as an iMessage application or else make an application which includes birthday cards or a collection of something useful.

You can even develop a game or any other creative application as an iMessage application to make the chat between two people interesting and meaningful.

When it comes to existing iMessage applications in the Apple app store for iMessage, There were very few apps which actually helps the users to continuously maintain their chat with another person.

Following are some of the noticeable use cases that I have identified as really helpful.

YouTube iMessage application

This one of the best use case I figured when I was doing an R&D about iMessage applications and what they are actually developed for.

Imagine a situation which you were chatting with one of your best friends and you wanted to recommend a few videos from YouTube.

Before iMessage comes to the play

  1. Minimize your current chat by pressing the Home button
  2. Open the YouTube application of your phone
  3. Search for the video what you want to recommend
  4. Copy the link
  5. Open the previous chat and share the link

When you have iMessage YouTube app 😅

Not only YouTube application, There are so many other applications which have used iMessage application relevant to their main iOS application Think about a moment which you wanted to share your location with the other person or else a situation you recommend a product to a friend from your AliExpress search history.

When it comes to iMessage apps you don’t need to develop it as a Standalone application, you have the ability and full control to develop it as an extension to your main iOS application. as well as you can code it with one of your favorite languages for iOS, such as Objective-C or Swift

For further details and information, you can refer the official Apple developer documentation for iMessage

This could be the app category that you are missing for your main iOS application. So I hope this article would help you all to develop something different and enhance the user experience.

I am thankful to my company Zone24x7 for giving me an opportunity to experience these types of untouched areas as a trainee associate software engineer.

also, I am planning to write a series of articles related to iMessage applications development. So, stay tuned for more.

Until then, Cheers… 👊👊👊👊
